Notes from the curator
Gaturiri - “The Shrubs”. The SL28 is suited for medium to high altitudes and shows resistance to drought, but is susceptible to the major diseases of coffee, which is why getting a yield from the Bourbon-Like cherry is not easy. Ruiri 11 was born from a F1 Hybrid(Introgressed) after Kenya had a 50% loss of their coffee production in 1968. Kenya’s nutrient rich mountainous terrain that’s densely forested has access to naturally fresh water which is used at their washing stations.
